Winter is one of four sample characters created for the inaugural play-by-forum RPG session on RPGG. Each of the characters has the same underlying dice rolls for their random elements, but a different race and widely different background.

Carl Vincent Winter, brave stalwart of Strike Force, hero of the Alliance of Planets, celebrated champion of a hundred worlds! Hardly. He would have smirked to be called by any such honourable epithet, because he knew exactly where his loyalties started and ended: with C.V. Winter.
So what had made him sign up for the perils of a position in the Strike Force? Money. Well, that and the handy way that going on a mission could let him disappear for a while; the action was getting a little too hot around here. But mainly it was for the seductive reward of danger money.
Sure, the Unified Earth Government may have claimed to have eliminated poverty, but that only meant they raised the poorest folks to a minimum standard of living. The rich were still rich, and that extra financial power could still exert a strong influence. Carl wanted that influence.
So he had gathered together his bank-robbing equipment and a faked graduation certificate from some backwater world where there was a branch of the Alliance Academy. Presenting himself as a trained demolitions expert (close enough to the truth that he could pull it off) he wangled his way onto a newly formed team of loser graduates and availed himself of the free room and board, waiting for the word to come that they would leaving this useless rock of a planet behind.
